🍒Chapter 41: “Whatever You Say is Right”

Shen Shuyi opened the door, and Xie Chenzhou was standing outside.

Compared to the image Shen Shuyi had of him, Xie Chenzhou had barely changed.

He was still that strikingly handsome, aloof figure. At this moment, the expression in his brows carried a quiet restraint as he looked at Shen Shuyi.

“Mr. Xie…” Shen Shuyi was surprised by Xie Chenzhou’s sudden appearance.

Yet he wasn’t entirely surprised. He could guess that Xie Chenzhou had probably already known where he was. He could also guess that… perhaps the two nannies and the childcare worker, as well as the scented blanket covering the baby, were arrangements Xie Chenzhou had made through the agency specifically for him and the baby.

Otherwise, there was no way to explain why, right after Shen Shuyi had withdrawn his information from the Omega medical benefits agency, Xie Chenzhou appeared outside his rental.

Although not completely unexpected, the timing was too sudden. Shen Shuyi had no preparation at all.

He wore soft cotton slippers, his hair messy from having just dozed on the table. Out of habit from taking care of the baby, he didn’t bother with formality at home, preferring loose, comfortable old clothes that wouldn’t irritate the skin and made holding the baby easy.

The old T-shirt he wore had been bought at a discount store when he first arrived in Country A. After so long, and with the baby tugging at it, the waist had worn a hole. Still, he wore it at home, never thinking to replace it.

Xie Chenzhou’s gaze lingered on Shen Shuyi’s face for a long time, as if using his eyes like a camera to record every detail, etching it into his memory.

Then his gaze drifted down, landing on the hole in Shen Shuyi’s T-shirt.

Shen Shuyi had prepared to speak when a short, chubby little hand wobbled toward his feet.

“Ba… Apu…”

The baby tumbled against Shen Shuyi’s leg, unable to stand or support himself, slipping to the floor with a soft thud.

“Baby?” Shen Shuyi jumped, bending down to scoop him up.

Despite the fall, the baby didn’t cry. Being held by his father, he giggled happily, babbling in baby talk with his pink, toothless gums showing.

Then his eyes met Xie Chenzhou’s.

Xie Chenzhou’s dark eyes carried an innate, overwhelming presence. Shen Shuyi worried the baby would be afraid, but instead, the child reached out both hands toward Xie Chenzhou.

Shen Shuyi was surprised and looked at Xie Chenzhou.

For the first time in a long while, there was a softness in Xie Chenzhou’s gaze. He tentatively reached his hand toward the baby.

The baby leaned forward from Shen Shuyi’s arms, effortlessly transferring himself into Xie Chenzhou’s embrace.

“Ba… Ba…” The baby instinctively called him “Daddy,” pressing his head against Xie Chenzhou’s chest and nuzzling the familiar scent.

Shen Shuyi realized the baby recognized Xie Chenzhou’s familiar scent. He himself noticed the faint, familiar fragrance lingering on him.

The baby’s friendly nature immediately eased the awkwardness of their first meeting. Shen Shuyi stepped aside to retrieve a pair of cotton slippers from the shoe cabinet, placing them by the door for Xie Chenzhou.

“They’ll do for now. These are my size, so they might be a little small for you.”

Xie Chenzhou didn’t mind. Holding the baby awkwardly, he slid his feet into the slippers, even with half a heel sticking out, and followed Shen Shuyi into the apartment.

Shen Shuyi’s rental was a small, two-story unit common in Country A. The living room had been converted into a play area for the baby, while upstairs held two bedrooms and a storage room, which was now a temporary guest room for the nannies.

The childcare worker didn’t live on site. The nannies took turns staying overnight with the baby. Occasionally, if Shen Shuyi wasn’t busy studying, he would sleep with the baby.

Most of the time, the baby preferred sleeping in the master bedroom with Shen Shuyi, though late-night study sessions made that impractical.

Thanks to the agency assigning an extra nanny, night care was manageable. The nannies were diligent and kind, genuinely caring for the baby. Looking back, Shen Shuyi suspected Xie Chenzhou had handpicked them.

Sure enough, once Xie Chenzhou entered, the two nannies quietly disappeared, as if instinctively retreating to the kitchen. The childcare worker announced a shopping trip and soon returned with groceries before leaving again.

Shen Shuyi, pretending ignorance, said, “The apartment’s small. Please make yourself comfortable here, Mr. Xie.”

He brought over a low, soft baby chair and placed it by Xie Chenzhou’s feet.

The living room had a large play mat, scattered with soft toys and balls. Shen Shuyi took a dining chair to sit. There was no need for a sofa, as few guests came, and after the baby’s first month, the sofa had been cleared to free up space.

The rounded baby chair could seat an adult, but Xie Chenzhou’s long legs left him curled up, making his neatly tailored suit tense and wrinkled. He didn’t seem to care, his gaze fixed on Shen Shuyi.

The baby seemed even happier, rushing among his toys and bringing his favorite elephant plush to Xie Chenzhou, then a squeaky duck to Shen Shuyi.

“Thank you, baby!” Shen Shuyi accepted the duck, playing along with delight.

The baby clapped his hands, delighted.

Shen Shuyi glanced at Xie Chenzhou. “Mr. Xie, the baby will be one year old next month…”

He wanted to apologize for leaving Xie Chenzhou after becoming pregnant, but Xie Chenzhou spoke first:

“Xie Cheng’s overseas business has partly shifted here over the past two years. I’ve purchased property nearby. If you want, you can come live with me. If not, you can stay here.”

His right hand trembled slightly.

It was a problem he had developed over the past two years. Medical checks revealed no cause; it seemed psychosomatic.

Xie Chenzhou had waited, restraining himself, never bothering Shen Shuyi for two years. But the moment he learned Shen Shuyi had left, he almost lost control.

He remembered his mother saying, “People like us can’t hold onto those close to us.”

He knew controlling or forcing someone to stay was wrong. He had once stored handcuffs, ropes, and other tools to bind Shen Shuyi in the basement, yet never used them. He had imagined countless scenarios, but it was only imagination.

He had learned self-restraint, studying normal relationships, observing, and recording behaviors others took for granted, forcing himself to internalize them. He resisted seeking Shen Shuyi, though he thought of him constantly.

Xie Chenzhou had gradually shifted some of Xie Cheng’s overseas business to Country A while subtly searching for Shen Shuyi, knowing exactly where he might study, but deliberately proceeding slowly to avoid rejection.

He observed Shen Shuyi’s pregnancy, birth, and the baby’s growth up to almost one year. He hadn’t dared appear, fearing Shen Shuyi would vanish like foam. He learned to care for the baby and arranged nannies, and even customized a blanket with his pheromones and signature fragrance to leave a trace of himself.

At the moment Shen Shuyi fully returned to Beta physiology, Xie Chenzhou came immediately. He couldn’t wait for Shen Shuyi to seek him out.

“If… if you still don’t want to come with me, then I’ll go back first…” he said, words he never could have spoken before, his hand trembling again.

Xie Chenzhou nearly lost control.

A small, soft hand grabbed his shaking wrist. The baby looked up, puzzled at the stiff, half-crouched figure.

“Are you okay?” Shen Shuyi approached, holding Xie Chenzhou’s hand along with the baby.

“I didn’t say I don’t want to come,” Shen Shuyi said gently, with that familiar warmth. “I was planning to visit soon. I just worry the baby might not adjust if we moved now.”

“Mr. Xie, I’m sorry for leaving without saying anything,” Shen Shuyi continued, “but I met you as a Beta. You shouldn’t really care whether I’m Beta or Omega, right? If one day I became an Omega unwillingly because of you, would it create a rift between us?”

“I want to stay with you, so this temporary separation is just for our reunion. Will you forgive me?”

Yes. Yes.

Whatever you say is right.

Xie Chenzhou embraced Shen Shuyi. As long as Shen Shuyi stayed, whatever he said was right.

Shen Shuyi hugged him back, relieved. Xie Chenzhou wasn’t angry and was willing to forgive him.

“Ba… ba…” The baby, seeing his father and the familiar-smelling uncle hugging, rushed over, hugging Shen Shuyi’s leg tightly.

The baby wanted a hug too!
